The Artistic Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that the scheduling and production of all orchestra events (concerts, rehearsals, tours, run-outs, special events) run smoothly, effectively, and in a financially responsible manner. The Artistic Operations Manager also functions as Personnel Manager and as a liaison between the orchestra and the rest of the Association and is responsible for carrying out many provisions in the master agreement.

The Music Director is responsible for the fulfillment of the orchestra’s artistic potential and its image in the community. They are responsible for overseeing all the CSO artistic activities (repertoire, programming, and artistic production) and ensuring that artistic excellence is maintained and developed. Music Director shall provide a clear artistic vision by providing programming that is imaginative and with a varied repertoire, engaging with musicians and inspiring audiences by making symphonic music accessible to all people, and deepening local, regional, and national relationships to maintain and build audiences. Music Director shall collaborate with the President/CEO, as well as the Music Advisory, Marketing, and Finance Committees to ensure adherence to established artistic goals, budgets, and assist in fundraising and community engagement goals.

• Take attendance at all rehearsals including the Canton Youth Strings, Canton Youth Symphony, and Canton Youth Symphony Advanced Orchestra. Update and track student registration forms. • Attend all rehearsals and assist Conductors and Director of EdCE as needed.
• Assist with set-up of rehearsals and on-site at all CYS concerts and some social events.
• Distribute music to students and make copies as needed. Transposition skills are a plus.
• Answer student questions about instrument technique and other musical questions.
• Create and implement student professional development sessions with Director of EdCE.
• Help brainstorm and organize other learning opportunities for students including field trips, performance opportunities, chamber music, etc.
• Coach chamber groups and play in an ensemble as needed – ability to play an instrument is a plus, but not required if other artistic/administrative skills are proficient and highly valued.
• Assist with recruitment and create new strategies as needed.
• Create promotional, marketing, and social media materials for the organization.
• Demonstrate exceptional engagement and communication with parents and students, fostering positive relationships and ensuring clear, respectful, and effective dialogue.
• When needed and as available, assist with other CSO programming such as concerts and community events.

MARKETING & DEVELOPMENT INTERN – Applications are accepted until due date, or when the position is filled.
The CSO is seeking a motivated and creative intern who is eager to learn more about nonprofit arts administration, with a focus on marketing, communications, and fundraising. This internship is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience in a professional arts organization while allowing the intern to develop their voice, vision, and confidence as a communicator and arts advocate.
Interns will receive mentorship throughout the semester, with opportunities to contribute ideas, manage real projects, and gain valuable insight into the operations of a nonprofit performing arts organization.
