New Horizons Chamber Orchestra

in Collaboration with the Canton Symphony Orchestra

Registration Form

Have you ever wanted to learn how to play an instrument?
Wish you had never quit?
Would you like to gain orchestral experience and have a chance to play beside the Canton Symphony Orchestra?

Here’s your chance! Following last year’s successful inaugural season with the New Horizons Chamber Orchestra (NHCO), we will be continuing this program with some exciting changes.

The New Horizons Chamber Orchestra and Music Program is an opportunity for amateur musicians in our community to perform as a full chamber orchestra and as part of a smaller chamber ensemble. The program is a joint collaboration between the Summit and Stark County Chapter of New Horizons and the Canton Symphony Orchestra Association. The chamber orchestra will perform orchestral literature under the direction of Dr. Rachel Waddell, the Associate Conductor of the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Music Director of the Canton Youth Symphonies. In addition each member can choose to participate in a chamber ensemble. Chamber ensembles are non-conducted ensembles of fewer musicians. These will be coached by Dr. Waddell, Mr. Jim Adkins, Director of the Summit and Stark County of New Horizons, and professional Canton Symphony Orchestra musicians.

This program is for musicians of all levels and abilities, from beginner to advanced. The only thing that is required is an instrument, the desire to learn, and a positive attitude.

New Horizons is an organization dedicated to the training and support of amateur musicians around the country. They provide lessons, ensembles, and concert experiences to beginning and experienced musicians. The Canton Symphony Orchestra is a fully professional regional orchestra in Northeastern Ohio dedicated to performing concerts that enrich, educate and entertain diverse audiences in a variety of settings.

Instruments: Orchestral instruments include: flute/piccolo, oboe/English horn, clarinet/bass clarinet, bassoon/contrabassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone/bass trombone, tuba, piano, harp, timpani, percussion, violin, viola, cello, and bass. While saxophones and guitars are not considered orchestral instruments, there may still be an opportunity for you to participate in a chamber ensemble. Please ask!

Enrollment: New this year, participants have two enrollment options
Enrollment Option #1
Fee:  $100 for the year
Includes:
•  Participation in every New Horizons Chamber Orchestra and Music Program rehearsal (held Sunday evenings throughout the year)
•  Participation in the Canton Symphony Orchestra's Civic Orchestra Immersion Camp, which leads to a potential side-by-side performance opportunity with the Canton Symphony Orchestra
•  2-3 concert opportunities
•  Coachings with Dr. Rachel Waddell and Jim Adkins
•  Canton Symphony Orchestra musician coachings
•  One free ticket to a Canton Symphony Orchestra concert of your choice
This is a good option for those that already feel comforable on their instrument and feel they can practice with less guidance.  Those with previous experience, or who currently take private lessons, may wish to choose this option.

Enrollment Option #2
Fee:  $100 for the year PLUS the $24/month New Horizons Membership Fee to the Summit and Stark County Chapter of New Horizons
Includes:
•  Everything in Enrollment Option #1
PLUS
•  Bi-monthly Thursday sectionals on the music from the New Horizons Chamber Orchestra program
•  Participation in all additional New Horizons ensembles and rehearsals
•  Group Lessons
This is a good option for those that are beginners or feel they would like more guidance in learning an instrument.  They become New Horizons of Summit and Stark County members and therefore receive access to everything New Horizons members receive.  To learn more about the benefits of becoming a New Horizons of Summit and Stark County member, please visit their website.
Please note:  Those who are current members of New Horizons of Summit and Stark County are already paying the $24/month membership fee.

Financial Assistance: A limited number of scholarship opportunities is available for both enrollment options for those with financial hardship. Scholarship applicants must be able to document financial hardship.
