An Afternoon of Ballet Presented by Canton Youth Symphonies
Released November 10, 2016
CANTON, OH (November 10, 2016) – “In the United States, it is rare for professional orchestras and ballet companies to have the chance to perform with each other. For a youth orchestra to get to do so is almost unheard of.” These are the words of Rachel Waddell, Associate Conductor of the Canton Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Canton Youth Symphonies as she prepares her youth ensembles for their first concert of the 2016-17 season on November 20 at 4:00pm at Umstattd Performing Arts Hall. The Canton Youth Symphony and Canton Youth Symphony Advanced Orchestra will welcome members of Ballet Le Rêve of Canal Fulton to perform with them.
The concert will feature all three youth symphonies – Canton Youth Strings, Canton Youth Symphony (CYS) and Canton Youth Symphony Advanced Orchestra (CYSAO). Each ensemble will perform several classical works with a ballet or dance theme such as “Russian Dance” from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, “Ballet Music” from Rosamunde by Schubert and movements from Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite. Dancers from Ballet Le Rêve will join CYS to perform on Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance No. 8 and CYSAO on selections from Giselle by Adolphe Adam.
The Canton Youth Strings consists of beginning violin, viola, cello and bass students in grades 2-6 while the Canton Youth Symphony is a full orchestra of intermediate level students in grades 6-9. The Canton Youth Symphony Advanced Orchestra is a full orchestra comprised of students in grades 9-12 who perform at an advanced level. CYSAO had the opportunity to accompany the dancers at Ballet Le Rêve’s benefit gala at The Onesto on October 28.
Ballet Le Rêve is a pre-professional ballet company dedicated to serving its community by promoting art appreciation through excellence in dance performance and performing arts education. The company trains at the Turning Pointe School of Dance in Canal Fulton under the Artistic Direction of Nurzhan Kulybaev.
