Released October 18, 2016

WORD DOCUMENT

CANTON, OHIO (October 18, 2016) – The next installment of the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s ConverZations Series is November 14 at noon and will focus on remixing as it pertains to art.  Brian Laakso, teacher of Music Technology at McKinley Senior High School will be the guest speaker.  The series of free public discussions, held at the Zimmermann Symphony Center (2331 17th Street NW), features a variety of musicians and music-lovers alike. Sponsored by T. K. & Faye A. Heston and the Ada C. & Helen J. Rank Charitable Trust, the ConverZations Series will continue on the second Monday of every month until April 2017.

After graduating from Kent State University, Brian Laakso taught music to every grade level, and currently teaches Music Technology (a course he designed) at McKinley High School in Canton. He is the author of Alfred's Music Tech 101, a textbook for high schools. A classically trained pianist, he has entertained many people as a dueling pianist.  He lives on what he calls “a genius compound” in Akron with his wife, four children, and two dopey dogs.

Remixing plays an important role in art, language, film, fashion and especially music.  For the ConverZations discussion Laakso will the explore the history of remix technologies, current remixing trends, how they have enabled composers to create music and their potential impact on shaping music of the future.

ConverZations attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch, and the orchestra provides coffee and a light dessert. For more information on upcoming ConverZations lectures and other events run by the Canton Symphony Orchestra, visit www.cantonsymphony.org/converzations.
