Principal Flute Auditions

The Canton Symphony Orchestra announces the following vacancy beginning in the 2017-2018 season


 (approx. 50 services per season)

along with possible unconducted

Ensemble services (Woodwind, Brass Ensembles, etc.)


Auditions will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 1:30 - 5:00pm in Umstattd Performing Arts Hall, 2323 17th St. NW, Canton, OH 44708.  Preliminary auditions will be held 1:30 - 4:00pm, with the final round beginning immediately after.

Per service rate for the Principal Flute and Piccolo position is $129.99, plus 5% pension contributions (AFM-EPF) for the 2017-2018 season.  Per service rate for the first daily Ensemble service (up to 1 hour period) is $85.00 for the 2017-18 season.  Some services require daytime availability.

Repertoire for the audition includes a solo work for the flute plus the following excerpts:

First flute:

Smetana – The Moldau beginning to A

Debussy – Afternoon of a Faune

Mendelssohn – Scherzo from Midsummer Night's Dream

Brahms – Symphony No. 4, 4th movement

Beethoven – Leonore Overture No. 3

Ravel – Daphnis and Chloe, Suite No. 2 - beginning flute solo


Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 4 - 4th mvmt.

Audition appointments can be made by emailing Michael G. Koscso, Orchestra Manager, at with a resume by September 1, 2017, reserving the right to ask for recorded excerpts.  You will receive an audition time by Thursday, September 14, 2017.   If you need any additional information please contact Michael G. Please bring your own music to the auditions - no excerpts will be available at the auditions.

Finalists might be asked to sight-read.
