An Introduction

The Education Department of the Canton Symphony Orchestra provides educational programs and services that contribute to the musical growth of children and adults by nurturing their musical interest and abilities, broadening their musical horizons and enriching their knowledge of music while preparing them for a lifetime of continued learning, appreciation, and enjoyment of music.

  Programs offered include

  • SymphonyLand Trios (ages 3-6)
  • Kinder Concert (ages 3-6)
  • Young People’s Concert (grades 4-5)
  • Small Ensemble assembly programs
  • Musician classroom presentations
  • Canton Youth Symphony
  • Continuing education opportunities for teachers
  • Listen @ the Library
  • Conversations in Music
  • Program Notes and Performance Prelude for Classical Concerts

For over 10 years, the focus of the educational concerts for children has been to move beyond entertainment and exposure to truly focus on “education.” All concert educational materials and repertoire align with Ohio Common Core State Standsards in Music and other subject areas such as Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and/or Math.
