Janet Carpenter
Biography
Janet Carpenter is a native of Liberty Township, Ohio. She recently earned her
Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of
David Updegraff, and is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at CIM
studying with William Preucil. Ms. Carpenter was the recipient of CIM's Dr. Jerome
Gross Prize in Violin in 2009. She made her orchestral debut in 2007 as a first prize
winner of the Blue Ash/Montgomery Symphony Orchestra's Young Artist
Competition.
An avid orchestral musician, Ms. Carpenter has performed in Carnegie Hall as a
member of the New York String Orchestra Seminar, at Blossom Music Center as
concertmaster of the Kent/Blossom Chamber Players, and at Severance Hall as
concertmaster of the CIM Orchestra. She has been concertmaster of the
International Music Academy Pilsen orchestra in Pilsen, Czech Republic. She has
recently substituted with the New World Symphony. This past summer she
participated in the Orchestral Leadership Training program at Music Academy of
the West.
In 2010 Ms. Carpenter recorded incidental music for a production at the Cleveland Play House. She is also interested in authentic Baroque performance, and has been a member of the Case/CIM Baroque orchestra as well as various Baroque chamber ensembles.
